You won't want to miss the Bach Chorale's heart-pounding season opener in collaboration with Purdue Convocations, the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra, soloists of the Kentucky Opera, and the Bach Chorale Youth Chorus in a semi-staged version of Carmen, Georges Bizet's opéra comique. Sung in French, this passionate tale of love, jealousy and betrayal will leave you breathless.

Poetry is a glorious conduit through which the greatest hopes and ideals of our humanity are expressed. Partnered with singing, poetry can achieve an even higher level of expression and transformation of our world. The fall concert of our Bach Chorale Children and Youth Choirs will feature the words of well-known poets such as William Shakespeare, Walt Whitman, Emily Dickinson, e.e. cummings and Edgar Allan Poe, set to the melodies of contemporary composers. In the words of the 19th-century poet, Richard Le Gallienne, "Stay the course, light a star, change the world where'er you are." Listen to this concert, and you will hear the world changed, one singer at a time.

John Rutter's Mass of the Children celebrates the beauty of children's voices by giving them an integral role in this large-scale work set for adult chorus, soloists, orchestra, and children's choir. In this work, composed for the American Choral Directors Association convention in New York in 2003, Rutter utilized not only the mass text, but also English poetry such as William Blake's "Little Lamb" and Thomas Ken's "Morning Hymn." From the lyrical melodies in the Kyrie to the peaceful Dona nobis pacem, we invite you to join us as children and adult voices unite in this beautiful and meaningful work.

S.I.N.G.S! - HERO HOORAY!

Our children's summer choir program, Singing Is Now Going Summer (S.I.N.G.S!), June 18–23, 2012, will be a celebration of heroes, both real and mythical. The theme, "Hero Hooray!" will provide a week of learning songs about everyday heroes, imaginary heroes and heroes who have achieved fame. We'll have fun creating an imaginary hero, meeting a real local hero, and we'll make a plan for how we can become a hero to someone else in our community. Our week at S.I.N.G.S! will culminate with our Saturday concert.
