Something new, something familiar: the 47th season of the Bach Chorale Singers

Dear Friends of the Bach Chorale,
In this 47th Season of the Bach Chorale Singers we are going to travel through our concerts from tempestuous romance in Spain to carols and candlelight in England to brilliant brass and ringing voices in Italy, and we welcome you along on this musical journey! This season marks the second year with our splendid Artistic Director Michelle Louer, and promises to be a truly exciting and upliftmg experience.
The season of "Choral Celebrations" begins with a multi-faceted collaboration between the Bach Chorale Singers and the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra, Opera de Lafayette and the Kentucky Opera in a semi-staged performance of Georges Bizet's passionate Carmen. In December, "Candlelight and Carols" will bring in the holiday season with a concert reading of Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol, interspersed with carols both traditional and new to the ear for singers both on stage and in our audience. In the Spring, we venture into the world of the Italian Baroque, commemorating the 400th anniversary of Giovanni Gabrieli's death by performing the magnificent works crafted by Gabrieli and his contemporaries. A rousing performance of Haydn's The Seasons will bring the adults' season to its celebratory close, with musical renditions of croaking frogs, hunting dogs, crashing storms and a peaceful sunrise.
The young singers in the Bach Chorale bring an equally exciting and diverse program for our enjoyment this season. Denise Gilliland, our Director of Youth Choirs, has chosen a delightful range of music that shows off the beauty of these young voices. The amazing skills of these singers are showcased in concerts that will send shivers of delight down your spine. Their opening concert, "The Poet Sings," features a creative combination of dramatic readings and soaring music using poetry from Walt Whitman to Lewis Carroll. In the Spring our young singers will perform portions of John Rutter's powerful Mass of the Children, which he wrote as a tribute to his son, who died an early tragic death. As a culmination of the youth program, our summer S.l.N.G.S! workshop and concert will expand the joy of singing into the community with "Hero Hooray!," where the summer children's choir will perform songs of heroes real and imaginary.
We welcome you to this 47th Season of Celebration and hope that you will come to all of the Bach Chorale Singers concerts, informance and fund-raising events. Your presence at the concerts electrifies the singers, and your generous donations support their hard work in producing these glorious concerts. We know that you value the Bach Chorale's contribution to enrichment of the quality of life in our community and thank IOu enthusiastically for your continuing support. Come with us now to tonight s Choral Celebration!
Warm regards to all,Cynthia Stauffacher
President, Bach Chorale Board of Directors
